Sky McCracken
MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS STUDENT
About me
Im Sky McCracken, a 21 year old Media and Communications student currently completing my last year at Birmingham City University.
As of now, you will find me working on my dissertation which is focused on social media- in particular Instagram, and the affects their decision to remove visible 'likes' has had on its general users and rising influencers. I chose to write about this particular subject as it is very new and unique, and with it being such a new issue, no other student would have ever written about it before.

My interest for media came from an early age, growing up in Drama school i grew an interest for being behind the scenes production which took me on my path to experience within television production. After exploring that sector, i decided to explore a wider range of the media industry which led me to Grayling PR.

After exploring a wide range of options within the media industry i have found myself with an ambition to build a career within the PR industry, which is my goal after graduation.
Portfolio
As you can see, during my years at University i decided to take full advantage of my work experience and explore completely different media sectors to help me decide what career path is best for me. I have completed work experience with Keane Brands, a top graphic design company based in Birmingham, Full Fat TV and Grayling PR.
Unlike others, exploring media over the past three years has been so interesting i found it too difficult to decide on one particular sector to focus on for my career, so my choice to spread out my experience was definiltey the best move for me to take and i'm very happy i did that.
Unfortunately, at all two of my work placements i worked on current projects at the time so i was unable to take away any of my work with me due to signing confidentiality forms, however i can explain the roles fulfilled and skills i gained from my experiences.

2018/ Keane Brands-

At Keane Birmingham i spent my time making mood boards for menu design ideas for ongoing projects, which was a totally new and fun experience for me. I had a hand in designing menus for restaurants such as Brew Dog and The Farm House Inn franchise, where i got to bring out my creative flare. I also got to work on designing the new work uniform for bar/restaurant The Slug and Lettuce.
2019/ Full Fat TV-

At Full Fat TV in Birmingham i worked for two weeks as a transcriber and helped with casting. Due to working on current editing material at the time i was unable to take away any of my work. However i worked solidly on helping the two main editors for the show 'The Bad Skin Clinic' which at the time was called SOS: Save Our Skin.
This was my first experience working in television so i left with transcribing skills and learnt how to cast for a television show through the use of social media and street casting.
2020/ Grayling PR-

Again for Grayling, i had to sign confidentiality forms for what i was working on so i was unable to take away any of my work.

However for my first ever experience with PR, i wrote production forms for photographers for current projects, i completed a press release on behalf of HSBC's press release team and produced in depth research for contacts for future projects which i took away as new skills which i can apply in the future.

2020/ Web design
Among growing my other skills in media i also have experience in producing websites for employers such as https://skymccracken1.wixsite.com/fineartbyclaireheidi.
